One correct Answer - Posted by Ashish Kumar(Vinod Vyas)

(1)The priest takes 7 Flowers.
(2)Rinses the 7 flowers to become 14.
(3)Offers 8 flowers to the first deity.
(4)Balance on hand is 14-8=6.
(5)Rinses the 6 flowers to become 12.
(6)Offers 8 flowers to the 2nd deity as offered to the first deity.
(7)Balance on hand is 12-8=4.
(8)Rinses the 4 flowers to become 8.
(9)Offers all the 8 flowers to the 3rd deity.
(10)Balance on hand-Nil.
The priest is highly satisfied with his offerings for having treated all the three godess equally.
Here is the equation posted by Mr.Vinod Vyas.
Let the total number of flowers = x
After rinsing in pond they become double=2x
A certain number of flowers r devoted to first deity =y
Flowers left after offering to first deity = 2x-y
This flowers are again rinsed in pond and they become double=2(2x-y) =4x-2y
From these flowers same number of flowers as that of first deity i.e. y is offered to second deity….so number of flowers left after offering to second deity will be 4x-2y-y=4x-3y
The remaining flowers are again rinsed in pond to become double i.e. 2(4x-3y) =8x-6y
The flowers offered to third deity is 8x-6y
We know that all three deities were offered equal flowers hence 8x-6y=y 8x-7y=0
X=7/8*y…….. (1)
* If we see the above equation, x can be whole number (x cannot be in decimals) only when y is 8 or multiple of 8.hence y=8
Hence if y=8 x=7
i.e. the numbers of flowers priest can have is 7, 14,21,28,35....so on so forth
and ACCORDINGLY the number of flowers offered to each deity will be 8, 16,24,32,40......so on so forth.
Thank you Mr.Vinod for getting at the correct answer.
I wish to thank all the participants and Mr.Mahesh for partially getting the correct answer.
Another tough one will take off shortly.
Have a nice entertaining day.

  1. The final equation will be like this
    8x=7y
    ie
    8 multiplied by 7 = 7 multiplied by 8 or 56=56.Hence x will be 7 and y will be 8.
    If x is 14 then y will be 16 ie 112=112
    So on and so forth.
    Congrats Mr.Vinod.
