A drama of sorts was witnessed on Sunday the 13th June 2010 in the 8th race.Sweet Caroline was backed as if defeat was out of question. The odds crashed. Most of the pundits expected Sweet caroline to win especially since Citrali won the earlier race.
We do not know the reasons , but the facts are :-
a) Dr VM won the fillies and the expected performance from EC of SL was not there in the Fillies
b) Dr VM's horses were backed in the 7th & 8th and they performed miserably
c) SL's horses won the 7th & 8th race.
d) In the 8th race before the actual race there were whispers of SLs Abnoba being on try, but after witnessing the support for Sweet Carline , most of the backers of Abnoba decided against backing it.
e) Sweet caroline was ridden to the ground, especially when the going was soft and expended all the energies and Abnoba could score. Was the tactic right for Sweet caroline?
All these leads us to accept that there is no certainty in racing.
These are all ECONOMICS.It is elementary Dear Watson.

If what you imply is true, it is daylight robbery. I saw grown men cry at the racecourse when the 8th race ended. You see when SW was backed down from 2.5 to 11/10, most bettors thought this was a racing certainty.
ReplyDeleteWe all know Dr VM himself does not bet on horses, but there are so many in his inner circle!
I only wonder if Dr VM is aware of these goings-on.
I agree that Dr VM may not be involved but i really do not know whether what i imply is true. However, some of the happenings do lead us to believe.
ReplyDeleteDear Ramesh Babu,
ReplyDeleteThanks for this posting, I am desperately waiting for race day report to complete my analysis on this particular race. However I beg to differ on your reference to riding instruction and closing remarks.
Sweet Caroline ran twice before this controversial race, first one was not-on-job test ride with track jockey and second one was with preferred stable jockey. In both occasions she did the front running and done well. Now why they should not try the same tactics?
Also please note that Sweet Caroline did not had the best of looks in paddock. I would like to conclude this as one of those racing bad luck rather than VM pulling fast one on punters.
Adios
Captain
