Selections for 6th August, 2008 - Pune Races

The DNA Trophy for 3year old maiden Indian horses promises to be close affair with Star Luxurious has a slight edge over others. The Karthik filly ran a good third in her last outing to Saltoro and finished just a length and a quarter to Blue Mountain a subsequent winner here. Hence race goers will witness a thrilling finish for the trophy.

The Pessi Shroff trained four-year-old gelding Aquadisiac has better credentials than his four rivals in the Chakori Trophy, the day’s supporting feature event. Aquadisiac pulverized the opposition over 1800mts in the lower class and maintains winning form. With 200mts additional to travel should defy the penalty and score an encore by putting up another stouthearted performance in the supporting event for the day.

My rest of the selections for the day are as follows:

Race No. 1 : Red Dawn 2) Legendary 3) Fire God

Both Red Dawn and Fire God have run together in Rno.23 wherein former was always ahead throughout the race in spite of conceding weight. Today with same distance and with identical weight advantage, according to me Red Dawn is preferred. Subsequently Red Dawn finished game 3rd to Beau Monde over 1200mts in good timing. Has an excellent chance here to score over this shorter trip with latest 25points difference over Legendary in speed rating. Also very rarely does a horse wins on immediate demotion and with an increase in weight whereby speed of the horse is likely to be reduced over last run. Hence eat Legendary else play Red Dawn each way.

Race No. 2 : Chopasni 2) Polar Glow 3) Dynamite

A tricky race wherein any of the three mentioned may prevail. Cjopasni’s last run is best ignored. Today it is in receipt of additional 4kg from Dynamite. In Rno.49 was 2nd at 500 then led till 200 finally finished 2nd ahead of Dynamite. Polar Glow has still not warmed up and it best to ignore it. Hence Chopasni should prevail over both Polar Glow and Dynamite.

Race No. 3 : AQUADISIAC 2) Hugo Boss 3) Nitrous

Aquadisiac pulverized the opposition over 1800mts in the lower class, maintains winning form and with 200mts additional to travel should defy the penalty and score an encore by putting up another stout hearted performance in this present class. According to me it is day’s best proposition. Hugo Boss has good opportunity to place here being way ahead of others on handicap rating. Nitrous has World War Three when both raced together in Rno.30. Last time out Nitrous was seen leading till the straight and weakened to finish 4th to Yana over the same trip in the terms race whereby even out of form Personified finished ahead. Looks extremely difficult for Nitrous here.

Race No. 4 : Cameo 2) Wild Torronaado 3) Lechwe

Cameo looks capable of winning here. With highest speed rating under its belt I do not see it losing. The main danger for Cameo could come from Lechwe who won her maiden race very convincingly over1000mts in the maiden class. Looks difficult for Lechwe over this extended trip in the present class.

Race No. 5 : Star Luxurious 2) Victory Star Phospor

An open race wherein most of the runners have good chance to score. Still Star Luxurious has an edge over others. It ran close to the pace till distance and weakened to finish good 3rd to Saltoro over 1400mts. Phosphor could prove to be the proverbial joker in the pack if she gets going. A good place candidate.

Race No. 6 : Excellent Gift 2) Bu Attifel 3) Fire Queen

Excellent Gift looks a cut above in this company and can graduate from the maiden ranks if she runs true to her potential. Bu Attifel and Fire Queen should follow her home. Last time Excellent Gift race in front bunch with G. Oza till the distance and weakened to finish 4th to Cameo over the same trip in the 3yr penalty class. She is the one all have to beat in this present class. In speed rating she is head and shoulder high over others.

Race No. 7 : Needforspeed 2) Jewel Star 3) Sepia Tone

Needforspeed on board in all her last two starts without threatening the winner and has been knocking at the doors of success. Has been presented a good opportunity to earn a bracket. If she is caught on the wrong foot then Jewel Star comes into the reckoning as it had an easy run in the higher class in his only start of the season, vastly improved in the morning trials and will fight every inch of ground along with Needforspeed.
