The official ratings by the Handicapper continues with no logic.Examples for 3.7.2010 are
a) NEARCO MASTER- 14.11.2009 - 21 lenghts behind,19.12.2009- 12.5 lengths behind , 9.1.2010 - 43.8 lengths behind,22.5.2010 - 36.6 lengths behind,6.6.2010- 26.8 lenghts behind & 20.6.2010- 28.3 lengths behind and still all these runs were at the same rating of 32 and again runs on 3.7.2010 at the same rating.
b)SON OF THE SUN-2.1.2010- 17.5 lengths behind , 23.1.2010 - 24.2 lengths behind,1.4.2010- 16.6 lengths behind,29.5.2010- 19.8 lenghts behind and still all these runs were at the same rating of 28 and again runs on 3.7.2010 at the same rating
Both are running in the 8th race.
Can God save us?
Does the official handicapper favour some?

Dear Swamy,
I was pondering on the rating system by clubs for some time. Good to see someone else also monitoring this. Where can I find more details on this?. For example how they decide on how many point need to be increased after a win?. What is the logic behind their decision?.
Hope you will through some light on this.
Adios

Thanks Ramesh,
an eye to Detail is what required for a seasoned, you are seasoned.
official handicapper by this example seems to be favouring somebody. but the thing is there is not forum to raise these kind of question for an ordinary punter.

Hi,
Rating alloted are at sole discretion of Official Handicapper..But he too has certain guidelines to follow.Basic requirement of alloting ratings is to establish the strength and value of the horse. It is therefore duty and main concern of the handicapper to ensure that he segrates horses as per their TRUE POTENTIAL.
Logic is simple.Following points should be noted in cases which are listed here.
1)All are 5 &6 years old
2)All won a race of 5years and old and attracted very less penalty for the same.ie not more than 4kgs..So where is the need to decrease handicap when it was not penalised accordingly as that of other class or open age races.
3)Leonardo's case is exception,it is 4 year old and non winner. It acquired rating of 45 after its maiden runs,in next run almost beat Sprint star after which its rating surged to 75 from 45..For the rating to come down connections must fully extend this horse using main jockey and then if handicapper feels that this horse is not worth at rating he will start reducing it.
All official handicappers therefore follow different rules for different age of horses.Iam told that winners of 5years old races can remain at same rating for next 10 runs, after which handicapper has to reduce the ratings. The same does not apply to other classes.
Winners of class 2 and 3 can remain at same ratings for next 2 runs only after which if they run unplaced handicapper has to decrease the ratings.Sometimes the horse finishes way behind but must have improved his personal timing then it is bound to attract penalty.
Having said that one cannot deny the fact that handicappers usually adopt practises of showing leniency with certain horses...reasons may be many..Quota of winners to certain owners..Framing races to please punters or sometimes bookies.
