Spread A Smile finally obliged, winning the 1200 metres Sha Tin Plat quite capably. Princess Emily failed to sustain her front-running tactics and was easily beaten by Spread A Smile.

Lionheart produced a stunning run in the final furlong to edge out Jet Fire to win the Gr 3 Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Cup, a terms race for four-year olds and over, the highlight of Sunday’s races. For the second day running, the day’s feature event saw a rank outsider winning much to the agony of followers of fancied runners. Royal Ambassador who had won twice during the winter season, received support to the exclusion of the rest though the son of Royal Gladiator did not warrant such a support as his winning performances had not come in graded races. Running Bull, Hyderabad Guineas winner Vijayraaj, Jet Fire and Classic Sky were all available at lucrative odds. Even as the starter was getting ready to dispatch the field, Running Bull reared up and sat down, getting entangled in the gates. It took a while for the handlers to pull open the front gate to allow the horse to come out. The saddle of the horse was re-adjusted and the horse pronounced fit to run with just a cursory examination. The traumatized horse never raised a gallop and finished way down the field, causing much heart burn among race goers who strongly felt that the horse should have been withdrawn. But in BTC, where things are done mechanically without proper application of thought, such incidents are not going to be isolated ones.Rhapsidion Snow, who raced ahead of the field, took charge on turning for home and broke into a sizeable lead but the filly slackened in the final 100 metres. Lionheart, who was gracing the rear in the early part of the race, came through the middle with a sustained run and surged ahead of the front-runner to win comfortably even as Jet Fire was closing up the gap to finish a noteworthy second. Rhapsidion Snow ran to be third. Vijayraaj was a disappointing fourth ahead of Our Little Savage.

BLUSHING BEAM Race No.12
Blushing Beam was the market rage in the upper division though the trip was too sharp for her breeding. In the event, Blushing Beam failed to quicken well enough despite having been in front at the crucial stage of the race and Luminous Gold had little difficulty in overhauling the front-runner and win from a late-rallying Glorious Princess.

MILAGRO Race No.5
There is great deal of expectations on Star Wave who is reckoned to be having classic potential. As such, she went into the 1400 metres Mayor’s Cup as cramped on money favourite. She was not hard-pressed to win as the opposition was meek though Milagro showed out when finishing from behind to take the runner-up spot. Star Wave won with a great deal of comfort but there was no stamp of class on the evidence of this run.
MAC & SANGINI Race No.7
Sangini had it easy while sailing past Anosheek to win the Littleover Plate, over seven furlongs. Anooshek who enjoyed favouritism, led the field into the straight but packed up when the pressure was on. The bandaged Mac came up with a late bid to finish third ahead of the favourite.
